OPeNDAP

Example using data in satellittdata.no.

Currently, the NBS offers to portals; One similar to the poral ESA is using and one that is integrated in satellittdata.no. In the latter portal, the Sentinel products dissiminated are stored in the NetCDF format which, among others, have support for OPeNDAP. We believe that through this approach the threshold is lowered for starting using satellite data. In addition, functionality like subsetting and regridding is possible.

Sentinel-1 in satellittdata.no

We are pleased to inform that Sentinel-1 Ground Range Detected (GRD) Extra Wide (EW) swath mode now are available in satellittdata.no/metadata_search (i.e. Get Data -> National hub). The Sentinel-1 satellites carries a C-band SAR instrumet which is, among others, capable of acquiring radar-"images" of the earth surface independent of clouds in the athmosphere and sunlight. 

Looking at temporal change with Sentinel-2 in Python

The Sentinel data are, among others, excellent for monitoring temporal change. Here, we look at an output from creating false colour vegetation RGB (Red, Green, Blue) composites of an area (covering Gardermoen airport outside Oslo) in Python for looking at the temporal change in vegetation. The Python script is available on the following github gist and can be run directly since it reads the data using OPeNDAP here.
